The inheritance of the widely different cultures that settled in Jerez in the course of the centuries left their imprint which is still visible in existing deep-rooted traditions and vestiges that strongly influence the rhythm of this city.
The large-scale descent of cultures during the course of time left numerous marks on Jerez and strongly enriched its artistic inheritance, such as the Phoenician Xerez, the strongly Roman influenced Ceret and the powerful Moslem Sherish, including the Reconquest of Jerez by Alfonso X ('The Wise') in 1264 and its Christianization.
The historic centre of Jerez has been declared a centre of historic and artistic interest. Here you will find authentic and typical quarters, small, hidden streets, places and corners, where fountains and orange trees mingle with palaces, churches and taverns.
